How Can I Improve?
This is for anyone who may have failed once or several times in job applications.
Don't despair! There is a world of opportunities out there.
Why did I not make it?
Don't worry! We've listed here the most common reasons for failing an interview. We encourage you to take some time to read them, reflect on the interview experience, and then follow through on the action steps below.
• Spoken English needs improvement 🗣️
• Lack of energy - not enough excitement and enthusiasm 🪫
• Lack of rapport and/or connection 🔗
• Not showing enough interest in the role 😪
• Unable to show us your capability 👩💻
• Not being able to answer the questions well 🙋♀️❓
• Not being able to explain why you want the role 🤷
• Potential commitment issues due to time or career misalignment 🕐

Take the following action steps to nail it next time!
Do role play to improve your interview skills.
If you don't understand what went wrong, ask a friend or family member to walk you through a role play interview scenario, giving you feedback on the points we've listed above.
Anyone you know who is already involved in recruiting/managing people is ideal, but otherwise find someone you consider dynamic and successful in their career path to give you feedback.
Consider asking 2-3 people in your network to do this with you so you get lots of feedback and ask them if they would kindly role play with you again when you believe you've taken actions to improve all their original feedback points.

Take an online course
Consider taking an online course to help you improve weaknesses flagged to you through the role play interview activity. Make sure you find a course with lots of great reviews from established providers.
Improve a skill
Improve a skill you can highlight as a strength in your next application. Consider what skills are both in demand for businesses AND that you would genuinely enjoy/be good at - this will shine through once you find something you love doing.

Go the extra mile
Once you've completed the previous steps and you restart applications - don't just 'copy and paste' the same information to all the companies you're applying for. It's very obvious when candidates are doing that and it leaves an impression that no particular care has been taken with that application. Instead, identify a few companies you'd be genuinely excited to work for and tell them why you'd love to work for them and what skills/strengths you can offer.
You could go the extra mile and offer to work for free for a month for the company of your dreams. Again you should showcase why you'd love to work for them and what skills/strengths you can offer, they'll still need to see you as proactive, enthusiastic and able to bring something to the table. That one month represents an opportunity for you to 'get your foot in the door' - if you work hard without too many mistakes they could be impressed and offer you a paid position. Worst case... you get some valuable work experience and you can ask for their feedback on how to improve.
